Deanna Becker
Biography
I am a Clinical Counsellor with a Masters Degree from the University of Calgary and a Bachelors Degree in Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria.
Over the past 20 years I have had the privilege of working in a variety of settings including schools, not-for-profit agencies, community services, mental health, group homes, and private practice. These varied opportunities have shaped my work with children, youth, and families and increased my skill level in multiple areas. My specialties include:
- Children of Divorce
- Trauma-including sexual abuse and violence in families
- Anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-love/self-esteem
- Parent-child relationship repair
- Emotion-Focused Family Therapy
- Complex trauma for children with multiple attachment ruptures including adoption breakdown and children in foster care.
I incorporate art, play, and yoga into my therapy work to make meaningful connections between mind and body.
I continue to participate in ongoing workshops and training to add to my repertoire of skills in working with a variety of issues. However, I feel the most important component for creating success in therapy is providing services from a person-centered approach. Being person-centered means connecting with you, without judgement, in a safe and comfortable therapy relationship to create emotional wellness and success.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #11435) through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I can provide services through Crime Victims Assistance (CVAP) and am a member of the BC Play Therapy Association. I look forward to supporting you on your journey!
