Biography
I am committed to helping others move towards health and well-being as it is only from this place we can express our best self in everyday life.
It is the stories of hardship, crisis everyday struggles that bring people to pick up a phone and sit in the company of a stranger. Recognizing the courage this step takes, I foster purposeful conversations that create time for reflection, give space for healing and empower change. I approach counselling as a collaborative partnership and step away from the traditional positioning of “patient” and “expert.” I am sensitive to the stigma and shame that may be carried into counselling and work to create an experience that is comfortable and accepting.
I have an educational background in social work, completing both my Bachelors and Masters at the University of the Fraser Valley where I am now a sessional instructor. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Registered Social Worker having worked in non-profit community agencies and within private practice. Integrative in my approach, I practices from a strengths based framework and draw upon Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Internal Family Systems. I am also trained in EMDR and Dialectic Behavior Therapy.
I offer support to youth, young adults and individual adults, holding a particular interest in women’s experiences. I work with those impacted by:
- Life transitions
- Anxiety and stress
- Insecurity and self criticism
- Grief and loss
- Substance use
- Abuse and trauma
Those around me know I live deeply, with intention, integrity, humour and authenticity. These values are carried into my work as I partner with people in their unique journeys. You can see more about me at my website www.laurieschulzcounselling.com
Be sure to explore your extended health plans as these often cover expenses for counselling facilitated by a RCC or RSW. I am also an approved service provider with Crime Victims Assistance Program, a vendor with ICBC and some EAP programs.
I’m at Yale Therapy Group full time and can be reached through Yale at 604-795-9552 or by cell 604-795-6855, call or text or email me at laurieschulzcounselling@gmail.com
